Waking to rumblings,
I sense the presence.
Stomp, stomp, stomp.
A rhythm growing faster as it approaches.
A green dinosaur stands beside me
Before jumping into my arms for me to hold.
He lays on my chest,
And snuggles
Telling me of his dreams.
Imagination running free.
Today he asks questions,
About life,
The days events
Requesting going to a playground.
This dinosaur can be gentle
Tender and caring.
At times, no item is safe
Curiosity leading to tearing.
He’s 4 today,
I know he won’t be this way forever.
Moments I try to not interrupt
Since green dinosaur PJs
One day will grow small.
Snuggling, no longer his favorite.
I love you dad, rarely coming off his tongue.
I’ll miss my little green dinosaur,
Stomping his way to my bed.
